New video by OK Go

OK Go just released a new video for their upcoming single "Last Leaf". Contrary to their previous music videos that became huge viral hits (Here It Goes Again, This Too Shall Pass and my favourite, A Million Ways), this one is actually animated. And while there is no way denying that the technology behind the animation is impressive, the video is not as enjoyable as the previous ones. I was hoping for something more captivating... Anyway, find out for yourself.

The Morning Benders

So here is one of my discoveries from thesixtyone.com (still loving it btw).

The Morning Benders are a bunch of cool guys from California. Why cool? Well for starters, they came up with a kick-ass name for a band. And their music is really good. iTunes named their debut album "Talking Through Tin Cans" the best indie album of 2008, and the boys have just followed it up with "Big Echo" this year, which I think is at least equally good. The new album was already released on Rough Trade Records, which means someone smart has already realised their potential. Their sound ranges from up-beat rock with distorted guitars to slow-paced ballads such as the one I posted below. From what they have done so far, they seem to have a wide range of talents, and I am sure they have a bright future ahead.

thesixtyone - a music adventure

I just stumbled upon this Mashable article about the best new website designs. I wasn't surprised #NewTwitter and The Wilderness Downtown made the cut, but thesixtyone.com certainly grabbed my attention. Admittedly, I've never heard of it before, but I know that after today I'm going to be a regular visitor. Do check out the website, the full-window music player design cannot really be done justice. You get to listen to relatively new and undiscovered artists, and have a lot of fun while doing it. If you're looking for another way to discover new music, I couldn't recommend anything more than TheSixtyOne!

The Social Network and what it meant to me

So, I finally managed to go see "The Social Network". I thought the movie was great, but I'm sure Mark Zuckerberg would disagree. The Facebook CEO was portrayed as an annoying, arrogant, quirky, selfish geek with almost no moral integrity. Seems to me like his hunger for money and power took the best of him, as cliche as that sounds. Now, I say this having done a little background check on the guy, and on how poorly he treated his former friends and co-founders of Facebook, Eduardo Saverin and Dustin Moskovitz. After all, the movie was based on a book, which in itself was loosely based on facts and included a lot of speculation and invented dialogue, as its author publicly admitted.

Therefore, I wouldn't believe too much of the story behind Facebook, but I have to say that I like the message that the movie conveys: Entrepreneurship and creativity are the drivers of social and economic change. I left the cinema hungry for success, knowing that I wanna definitely want to start my own business. Eduardo Saverin put that message very well in a guest post he wrote for CNBC. Speaking of Eduardo Saverin, kudos to Andrew Garfield who definitely tops my list of actors to watch in 2011. I can't wait to see him in the new Spiderman, and more importantly, Never Let Me Go. By the way, the latter movie has a trailer that I have seen about ten times, it is so beautiful and frightening at the same time - can't wait!

Back to The Social Network, though. Aaron Sorkin and David Fincher have done a great job in terms of writing and directing, but the real winner to me is the soundtrack by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Dark and ominous, melancholic at times - perfect companion for a late night session at the computer. Good night.
